(I was posting lots of behind the scenes pic on my twitpic account until they suspended me for being a bad girl apparently...so I suppose I will be posting those images on here like I should have been doing anyway!)
This picture was taken this past summer in Brooklyn by Steve Prue with MUA Anita Nouryeh. I'm wearing his striped leather peeptoe pumps and degrade dress that was custom tailored to fit my curves at his store in NYC's meatpacking district--which happens to be directly across the street from what was, in my opinion, the most amazing, innovative and creative NYC nightclub in the late '90s/early '00s...Mother. I've never experienced anything like it since--a club that held substance in as much, if not more, regard as style. It was also during that time that I first became aware of McQueen's work, and was immediately drawn to the theatricality of his designs which seemed to be sharply juxtaposed with a solid grounding--the pieces didn't seem constructed solely as costuming, there was a tangibility to his design, a purpose, a meaning...actual substance behind the glamour or grotesque--it's rare in the fashion industry that one's soul is so evident in their work.
That block, while much different now, is still akin to hallowed ground for me. 14th and Washington St. is where I first felt comfortable in my own skin and began to fully explore self-expression without fear or care of judgment. "Darenzia" was born on that block. It seems apropos that McQueen chose to utilize that same block for his NYC headquarters, as he was never one to bend to the artifice of celebrity or trend, choosing instead to follow his own visions to fruition regardless of commercial or social marketability. Eventually many would take notice of his genius. Unfortunately he decided to bow out of this world prematurely, but I'm sure he'd say it was at exactly the right time. Long live his legacy.

Be careful not to get carried away with said trend, then you'll wind up like myself--photographed at 2 events on opposite coasts, within a one week period, wearing the SAME HOODED DRESS (which, BTW was also worn the week prior to a private dining engagement in LA).

Also, my dear friend and talented painter Peter Halasz just updated his website with his latest work. This digital medium doesn't do his paintings justice, and really should be seen in person. They're truly gorgeous--the type of paintings you just want to stare at for hours because you continue to see more depth the longer you gaze...
Over the next few weeks you should see a return to my usual loquacious self on this blog...as I've missed sharing my adventures and general inane rantings on here!
